7 Types of Commercial Windows for Businesses

Today, many new business buildings are going up fast in the world. For the commercial building ,it require the strong and durable windows, not a very nice windows. These buildings include offices, shops, hotels, factories and so on . Business windows need to save energy and be better price , be strong, and keep people inside comfortable. They also must follow the rules. This article will talks about what is good windows for a commercial building . It looks at different frame and glass types(stronger ,but simple style). In our SIUPA windows manufacture, there is 40% of the price different with the same size of windows.we use Simple Accessorise ,Simple handle ,but durability one then normal one. Now ,I will explains seven kinds of windows. These are fixed windows, top-hung windows, side-hung windows, sliding windows, pivot windows, louvered windows, and roof windows. We will see where each type works best in a business building.

Main Things That Make a Good Window

We check a good business window on six things.

Stops Heat Transfer: We measure this with a U-value (USA/EUR)or K-valure(CHINA). It shows how well the window stops heat from moving through our windows. The rules say most places need a U-value of 2.0 or less. Cold places need it to be even lower, at 1.5 or less(for USA it will be lower then 0.5). To save energy, windows use special glass coatings(LOW-E), put Argon gas between the glass layers, and use special spacer bars. Good ones can have a U-value as low as 0.3 (three layers+ double Low-E).

Stops Air and Water: The commercial window can not let much air get inside the building. The building standards set a limit for this. Also with keep the rain out.The seals with low quality will let air and water get inside the commercial building. This wastes energy and can damage the building. The key point is repairment for it is much more higher cost then to buy a new windows.

Strong Against Wind: This is very important for tall buildings. The window must be able to handle strong wind pushing on it. How strong it needs to be depends on how tall the building is (2 floor building need the 1.4mm profile aluminum frame windows, more then 2 floor building need 1.8mm)and where it is(near the sea/not near the sea). Windows that open need a strong frame and good locks.

Stops Noise: For offices near busy roads or cities, the window must block noise or what we call thermal break. The rules set a level for this. The two layers glass is require  .

Keeps People Safe: The rules say that big glass panels or glass in certain places must be safety glass. This means  toughened or laminated glass is better.but in my experience thicker glass is already sufficient. In places with big storms near the sea, windows must be very strong to handle the wind and things flying around.

Lasts Long and Easy to Clean: Good window systems use materials that don’t rust easily ,SIUPA windows factory we use 304# stainless steel for the hinge with quality guarantee for 5-10 years. That is strong metal parts for the handles and hinges. The goal is for them to last over 30 years without much work.

Frame Materials: Strength, Heat Stop, and Cost

Some commercial windows use aluminum windows generally. It has a plastic strip (PA66)in the middle. This is called a thermal break. It makes the frame strong but also stops heat from passing through, that is what we called thermal break. The frame can be painted many colors and lasts a long time,SIUPA windows used Powder Coating which will keep longer then the normal one. .

U-PVC frames are also used. They are made of plastic. They stop heat very well and are easy to look after. But they are not as strong, so they can’t be used for very big windows. And deformation problems are inevitable. They are good for mid-height offices or shops.

Steel frames are very strong and stop fire well. But they let heat pass through easily unless they have a special coating. SIUPA engineer suggest amuminum is better ,because the coating of Steel is easy peeling .They are easy to rust. So they are mostly used in factories which need stronger frame or old-style buildings.

Some windows use mixed materials. For example, wood on the inside and aluminum on the outside ,but this style of materials is very high cost ,and need maintenance evey year  .So ,as a Winodws expert ,I strongly oppose the use of this material for commercial winows. Or they use fiberglass. These look nice and work well. But they cost more. They are often used in top hotels or special building projects.

New Glass Ideas

Commercial windows glass does much more than just let light in.

Key Types of Glass for Aluminium Windows

Double/Triple Glass: This is normal now for new buildings. It has two or three layers of glass with gas in between. This stops heat and noise better.

Low-E Coating: This is a special thin layer on the glass.I suggest that single glass windows do not use Low-E coating, because it will easy to be scratch if it is on the suface of the glass.  It reflects heat back into the room in winter and keeps heat out in summer. It helps save a lot on heating and cooling costs.

Tempered Glass: This is safety glass. It is very strong. If it breaks, it breaks into small, safe pieces. It must be used in public places.SIUPA windows use Tempered Glass by default.

Laminated Glass: This is also safety glass. It has a plastic PVB layer inside. If it breaks, the glass sticks to the plastic. It is very good for stopping noise and for skylights.

Fire-Resistant Glass: Some parts of a building must have glass that can stop fire. This glass can stay in one piece for 30 to 120 minutes during a fire. It follows special fire safety rules.

Vacuum Glass: This is a new type for very green buildings. It is thin but stops heat extremely well. But it costs more(not a little) and can only be made in certain sizes.Interestingly ,our SIUPA never sold this thing .And I don’t think normal commercial building would use it .

Main Window Types for Business Buildings

Fixed Windows

These windows don’t open. They are sealed shut. They stop heat and noise the best. They let in lots of light and give a good view. Fixed Windows are often used in big glass walls or used in combination this casement windows.and surely, the cost be better (40-80USD/SQM   )commercial windows

fixed windows

Top-Hung Windows

These windows open outwards from the top. You can let air in when it’s raining. The way they open helps water to run off. They are good for offices in places with lots of rain. They seal well but don’t open very wide, so they don’t let in as much air as some other types.

Casement windows

These windows open outwards from the side, like a door. They can open all the way. This lets in the most fresh air. They are great for schools, clinics, and offices where people work together. When closed, they seal very tightly against air and water. But they need space outside to swing open. On very tall buildings, they might need extra strong parts to handle the wind.

Double-Hung Windows

Sliding Windows

These windows slide open sideways on a track. They don’t take up any space inside or outside. They are often used for small balconies or in older buildings getting fixed up. They are easy to use and cost less. But they don’t seal as tightly against air. The tracks can get dirty and worn. So they are not the best choice if you need top performance or high security.

Pivot Windows

These windows turn around a central point, either side to side or up and down. They look very modern. Air flows around them in a balanced way. You can clean both sides from inside the building. This is very good for tall buildings. But they need very good design and strong parts to work smoothly without stress.Although I’m show it here ,but I think the pivot windows has begun to be pahased out ,because it is not very good at water proof .

Louvered Windows

Louvered Windows

For normal ,many small glass slats that you can tilt open and closed. Now the Louvered windows is much more bigger .You can control light and air very finely. They were common once, And now they are rarely used in most business buildings. This is because they don’t seal well against air and water. They also get dirty easily. You might still see them in hot places or factories where climate control is not so important.

Roof Windows

roof windows/sky lightThese are put into sloping roofs. They are often in the triangle-shaped wall at the end of a roof. They can have fixed parts and parts that open. They bring light into attic offices or small shops up high. It is very important to seal them well against water and heat. This stops leaks where the roof meets the wall.

Common Problems and Fixes

Some problems happen again and again with commercial windows.

Heat Leaks: Metal frames can let heat escape. The fix is to use frames with a plastic thermal break in the middle. Multi-chamber plastic frames also work well.

Condensation: This is water forming on the glass. It happens when the inside air is damp and the glass is cold. Fixes include using Low-E glass, special warm-edge spacers, and controlling the moisture inside.

Bad Installation: If a window is not put in straight, or not fixed strongly enough, it will leak. Gaps around the frame let water in. Good training for installers and the right sealing tapes are very important.

Worn-Out Parts: Handles and hinges can get loose or break if they are used a lot. Using good stainless steel parts and checking them once a year helps them last.

Storms and Fire: In places with big storms, windows need strong laminated glass and a very strong frame. In places that need fire safety, windows need special seals that swell up in the heat to stop the fire.

Ending: What’s Next for Business Windows

SIUPA WINDOWS has goals to use less energy. Because of this, business windows are becoming smarter. We are starting to see more windows that can change color with the sun. Some have built-in sun shades. Others have sensors connected to the building’s computer system. Rules are getting stricter too.

For desinger, build, or manage buildings, picking the right window means balancing cost and quality .how well it works, and what it needs to do. Fixed and top-hung windows are reliable and work well. caseemtn windows are best for fresh air and look good. Sliding windows are a good choice when space is tight. No matter which type you pick, making sure it meets the safety rules . Using the right safety glass—toughened, laminated, or fire-resistant—keeps people safe and protects the building for a long time.

good  commercial windows are more than just a building material. They are a smart choice.
